Crushing for Aggregate Production
Aggregate is an essential component of every construction project and at Melgaard Construction, we are proud to produce our own rip rap, structural fill, sand, and crushed stone of every grade to complement any construction project we undertake. Because we own and operate our own scoria, gravel, sand, and limestone mines we are able to reliably and efficiently produce aggregate to your exact specifications and ensure that a steady supply is available to keep the construction process moving on-schedule.
Common Grades And Applications
Melgaard’s quarries can produce any grade of rock that our projects require and we are always customizing our production to produce exactly the grades we need in the quantities we need.
Some of our most common grades include:
#1 Aggregate – Our largest grade, with rocks ranging in diameter from 2” to 4”. We commonly use #1 grade to fill wire baskets called “gabions” to stabilize steep banks, especially near streams where excessive runoff or erosion may negatively effect the river. It may also be mixed with #2 and used as a base for access roads
#3 Aggregate – This grade, which contains stones ranging from 1.5” to 2”, is used to line drainage channels to prevent soil erosion in many civil construction projects and is also common in railroad beds, beneath the tracks.
#5 Aggregate – A #5 grade aggregate is perhaps our most commonly used size, and is often used in road base. Stone sizes range from 1” to dust.
#8 Aggregate – This grade is popular for creating concrete and asphalt, both of which are used in most civil construction projects. Sizes range from 3/8” to 1/2.”
#411 Aggregate – This grade is a mixture of #57, which contains stones around 3/4” in diameter, and stone dust. It is commonly used in roads, as a foundation for retaining walls, and to patch holes in other construction projects.
Aggregate Crushing for Projects Across Wyoming, Montana , and North Dakota
Thanks to our in-house crushing process, Melgaard Construction can produce enough aggregate to provide a consistent supply for all our construction projects. Unlike other construction companies who must outsource to local contactors for their needs and whose requirements may exceed the normal output of the location, we are able to provide exactly what we need when and where we need it. With the ability to increase or decrease production of a grade or group of grades on a moment’s notice, we ensure that your project is never held up for lack of raw materials.
